Gareth Bale has told La Liga officials to deal with the repeated racism in Spain after Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior was abused during the 1-0 defeat to Valencia on Sunday.

The Brazilian was targeted by sections of the home crowd at the Mestalla, with the game being halted in the second half as Vinicius told the referee of the abuse toward him.

Vinicius was later sent off for violent conduct during an altercation with Hugo Duro, who escaped a red card himself despite grabbing the forward around the throat.

After the game, Vinicius wrote on social media: "It wasn't the first time, nor the second, nor the third. I'm sorry for the Spaniards who don't agree but today, in Brazil, Spain is known as a country of racists. And unfortunately, for something that happens each week, I have no defence. I let it happen.

"But I am strong and I will go to the end against racists. Even if it is far from here."

Many have sent their messages of support to Vinicius and Bale is the latest with a post on his Instagram page. Alongside an image of the two, the former Tottenham star and Vinicius team-mate at Real wrote: "Racism has no place in football or society! La Liga need to take serious and unequivocal action to stop this from happening. All my support to Vinicius Junior."
